On Guide My Feet, the highly anticipated follow-up to last year’s critically acclaimed, Steal Away: Songs of the Underground Railroad, Kim and Reggie Harris have enlisted the talents of their long-time friends and musical collaborators, Magpie (Terry Leonino and Greg Artzner) to create a stunning album of depth, social vision, and joyous celebration of the human spirit. Breathtaking vocal harmonies and sensitive musical accompaniment highlight the timeless power of this wide-ranging collection of songs. Newly written compositions by members of the foursome are charged with passion and power and seem destined to take their place in the canon of the folk and political tradition. Standout tracks include the traditional title song; “Sarowiwa,” Terry Leonino’s tribute to slain writer and activist Ken Sarowiwa; the civil rights anthem “Woke Up This Morning”; the Harrises’ “In the Shelter of Each Other,” African rock band Osibisa’s “Woyaya”; and Pete Seeger’s classic “Old Devil Time,” complete with a spoken vocal by Pete himself. Other guests on Guide My Feet include Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, David Buskin, Ralph Gordon, Brian Melick and others.
